New Age | Doctor and clinic owner jailed for sexual harassment in Pabna

A court in Pabna sent a doctor and the owner of a medical diagnostic center to jail on Sunday, allegedly for sexually harassing a patient during an examination.

The accused are Sovan Kumar Sarkar, a doctor at the clinic and a resident of the city, and Jiban Ali, owner of the New Medipath Diagnostic Centre and resident of Shalgaria area of ​​Pabna city.

Pabna Chief Magistrate Kamal Hossain rejected their bail application and ordered their remand in custody.

The Pabna police arrested them on Saturday evening from a clinic near Pabna Sadar police station. The accused were produced before the court at noon, said Zulfikar Haider, registrar general of the court.

According to the complaint, the woman went to the clinic with her husband on Saturday evening for an ultrasound scan. The woman was taken to the designated room and an assistant prepared her by rubbing gel on her abdomen.

In the meantime, Sovan Kumar Sarkar sent the assistant out of the room and touched the patient’s private parts and talked sexually. The patient immediately came out and told the matter to her husband, which led to an argument.

The clinic owner threatened the patient and her husband to keep the matter secret. The victims later sought protection at the police station and filed a complaint.

Shahidul Islam, Inspector of Pabna Police Station (OC Investigations), said the accused were arrested based on the complaint. Later, they were handed over to the court after a trial was conducted against them.
