28-year-old man arrested for sexually assaulting 16-year-old boy in Delhi Metro

Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the sexual assault of a 16-year-old boy on a moving subway train.

The accused, Jitender Gautam, is a graduate and works in an organization under the daily wage system.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro), Dr. G. Ramgopal Naik, a team of Metro special forces led by inspectors Sameer Srivastava and Tej Dutt Gaur was formed to solve the case.

After scanning CCTV footage from 15 metro stations from Rajiv Chowk to Jahangir Puri, police found that Gautam got down from the train at Jahangir Puri metro station.

“The travel history of the accused was verified and it was found that the accused boarded the metro from Kaushambi. Later, teams were sent to Jahangir Puri and Kaushambi metro stations to establish the identity and check the whereabouts of the accused,” a police official said.

Another CCTV footage from near Kaushambi metro station was scanned and the accused was found getting down from the metro on the approach road.

A number of shopkeepers, guards and other locals were asked about Gautam and were shown his photo. After some efforts, he was identified and arrested from Ambedkar Colony in northwest Delhi.

According to police, Gautam was found to have no criminal antecedent but he is being questioned.

He was booked under Section 355 of the IPC and 8 of the POCSO Act at Rajiv Chowk Metro Police Station.
