Early morning shooting in Chinatown International District leaves one dead – KIRO 7 News Seattle

SEATTLE – Seattle police are investigating a fatal shooting early Sunday morning in the Chinatown International District.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m., 911 received a report of a shooting in the 500 block of 8th Avenue South.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a 35-year-old man with gunshot wounds.

Officers rendered aid until the Seattle Fire Department arrived. Despite their efforts, however, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

KIRO 7 spoke to neighboring businesses that investigators didn’t see until hours after the crime. Derek O’Bryan of Table Top Village says the crime scene is a great place, but it’s heartbreaking to hear about more cases of gun violence.

“It’s unfortunate. Especially for a business like ours, because we really care about the children,” O’Bryan said.

Several people off camera echoed the same sentiments with our teams on the ground. Some believe gun violence in Seattle is getting worse, but others, like O’Bryan, believe it will take a concerted effort to truly combat the problem.

“I don’t think you can completely control it, right? But there are things we can do to make it safer and more accessible so people can come and feel safe anywhere, right?” O’Bryan said.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are unknown. Homicide detectives are working to determine what happened.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Seattle Police Department Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
