Durango police search for driver of truck that struck four parked vehicles overnight – The Durango Herald

The incident occurred shortly before 1:45 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of East Third Avenue

Durango police are searching for the driver of a pickup truck who allegedly struck four parked vehicles and left the scene of the accident.

Just before 1:45 a.m. Saturday, police were called to the 900 block of East Third Avenue east of downtown Durango. Four vehicles – a 2002 Chevrolet pickup, a 2018 Nissan Frontier, a 2019 Subaru Impreza and a 2007 Toyota 4-Runner – were struck.

Durango Police Commander Jacob Dunlap said the four parked vehicles had “visible, significant damage” to the rear, leading police to believe the truck in question – a 2004 Dodge Ram – was traveling in the same direction as the parked vehicles.

No injuries were reported, but a woman who heard the crash told police that the truck that allegedly struck the four parked vehicles left the scene and continued north on Third Avenue, Dunlap said.

Police later found the Dodge Ram parked about two miles north at the Riverview Sports Complex, 855 Plymouth Drive. Dunlap said police did not find anyone in or near the truck, but noted significant damage to the front end consistent with damage to the parked vehicles.

The Dodge Ram is locally registered, but police are still trying to reach the registered owner, Dunlap said. It is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the crash, Dunlap said.

“We have towed the vehicle to a secure yard and officers are working on a search warrant before they actually go in and begin searching the vehicle,” he said.

Police are looking for a home near the accident scene that has a camera on the doorbell, Dunlap said.
