Houston family claims porch pirate was dressed as FedEx driver

The family said a thief disguised as a FedEx driver stole a package containing new cell phones.

HOUSTON — A young man from Southside Place said he and his family were a little shaken after a FedEx delivery earlier this month.

“I went out and I was like, ‘No, Mom, I don’t see the package.’ I was like, ‘Uh,'” the young man said.

After searching their porch, this family decided to check their surveillance cameras. It showed a FedEx delivery driver dropping off a package containing two new cell phones.

“However, about eight minutes later, there was another man wearing the same FedEx uniform,” the young man told KHOU 11News. “He took the package and walked away.”

Confused, he called FedEx and told KHOU 11 News. The company explained that there was no second driver. That’s when the family took a closer look at their video and noticed something.

“He was wearing a hat and trying to cover his face,” the young man explained.

They now believe that their visitor was actually a clever imposter in disguise, hiding his true profession as a package thief.

This is something we’ve seen before, with reports of similar projects in Connecticut and Oklahoma.

Closer to home, Bellaire police said several months ago they caught a porch pirate posing as an Amazon delivery driver.

“To think that an imposter can just come up to you and pretend to be there to help you, when in reality they’re just stealing from you. It’s a really scary thing to think about,” the young man told KHOU 11News.

KHOU 11 contacted FedEx regarding the incident. They sent a statement that said: “The security of our customers’ shipments is a top priority, and we encourage any customer who believes a shipment has been stolen to contact local law enforcement immediately.”
