At least 4 dead and 9 injured in car crash at nail salon in Deer Park, Long Island

BABYLON, NY – At least four people were killed and nine others injured when a driver driving a minivan slammed into the front of a nail salon on Long Island, New York, Friday afternoon, officials said.

The incident occurred at 4:42 p.m. local time at Hawaii Nail & Spa on Grand Avenue in Deer Park, Suffolk County.

Dominic Albanese, third deputy chief of the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department, said in a press conference that four people were pronounced dead at the scene and nine were taken to area hospitals, one of whom was flown out by helicopter. Several people had to be extricated, Albanese said.

The driver was among those taken to hospital. The condition of the injured victims is unknown.

The people killed in the crash were inside the building, Albanese said. No names were released.

The minivan became stuck deep in the rear of the saloon and 150 firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene, Albanese said.

The cause of the crash is currently being investigated.
