Man arrested in connection with 2023 Pomfret car crash that left woman dead – NBC Connecticut

A man accused of causing an accident in Pomfret in October that left a woman dead has been arrested.

State police arrested 35-year-old Ian Gillis of Griswold after investigating the Oct. 9 crash.

According to police, he was driving a 1967 Triumph GT6 and crashed into a tree on Route 169 shortly before 8:30 p.m. that evening.

The passenger died at the scene of the accident. Police identified her as 35-year-old Elisha Eden Roode from Waterford.

Gillis suffered serious injuries in the accident and was flown to a hospital.

According to the arrest warrant, police estimate he was driving between 70 and 74 miles per hour, entering a zone with a speed limit of 30 or 35 miles per hour.

An officer who responded to the incident reported there were three beer cans in the vehicle, some of which still contained liquid, and a witness said Gillis admitted to consuming some alcoholic beverages, police said.

Gillis was charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, reckless driving, and failure to drive on the right side of the road.

He was released on $125,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Danielson Superior Court on July 1.
