Off-duty police officer hit by car – NECN

An off-duty reserve police officer underwent surgery Tuesday after being struck by a car during an incident, Maine State Police said.

Many details about the incident in Norway, Maine, involving the Oxford police reserve officer and another man who was arrested, were not immediately available. There was no danger to the public.

Off-duty police officer Joe Correia, a 31-year-old from Norway, was outside his vehicle on Crocket Ridge Road when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Michael Carleton of Paris, Maine, around 6 p.m., police said.

According to police, a fight broke out between the two. Carleton was arrested for aggravated assault and reckless handling of a dangerous weapon. It was not immediately clear whether he had a lawyer who could comment on the charges.

According to police, Correia is expected to survive his injuries. The investigation into the incident lasted until Tuesday evening.
