Grand Jury Request for Investigation Filed Against OK Co. Commissioner

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Questions of corruption surrounding an Oklahoma County commissioner led three prominent residents to request a grand jury investigation into the Myles Davidson case.

“We need to know what’s really going on,” said Del City Mayor Floyd Eason.

The mayor, a state representative and a school board member, all from Del City, are calling for a grand jury investigation of Oklahoma County Commissioner Myles Davidson.

The three, who applied as concerned citizens and not on behalf of Del City, allege corruption and mismanagement in the selection of Southeast 19th and Grand as the new site for the Oklahoma County Jail. That site is near Del City.

“We’re talking about 400 feet. You could almost hit a softball that far,” said Mayor Eason.

“We have daycare centers that look diagonally toward the playground, and it’s 200 yards away,” says Gina Standridge, a member of the Mid-Del school board.

“It would be just over two miles from Oklahoma’s economic engine, Tinker Air Force Base. It would be the closest prison site to a major military base in the United States. Why on earth would we take the risk of Tinker being on the brink the next time they re-align and close a base?” said Oklahoma Rep. Andy Fugate.

“The other commissioners finally took us off the list. He turns around and brings us back,” Mayor Eason said.

The county purchased the land from Garrett and Company LLC. Records show that an executive at that company donated $2,900 to Davidson’s campaign in 2022.

“He has been friends with the seller for 30 years and we believe he should have recused himself,” said Mayor Eason.

The Commissioner’s campaign finances are also in question.

“He was over a year behind on filing. Then when he filed them, the campaign finances. They seemed to have been hastily cobbled together. We don’t believe they’re complete,” Eason said. “We asked for documents, specific documents. And he refused to give them to us until the very last minute.”

As I have said, the facts are simple. Assemblyman Fugate, Mayor Eason, and Gina Standridge have failed to contact me on this matter. At this time, I am not involved in this debate. I would be happy to speak with either of them. The facts are clear: My vote to move the prison is based on the urgent need for modern, humane detention facilities that can better serve our community. Our current facilities pose significant risks and challenges. I have provided leadership on this issue and will continue to do so regardless of any criticism or sensationalism.

“When questioned personally, the commissioner bowed his head and remained silent,” Mayor Eason said after News 4 received the statement.

“He won’t answer. He won’t produce any documents. So we’ll leave the questions to the grand jury,” Eason said.

If the motion gets the green light, signatures will be needed before an investigation is launched. Mayor Eason said that won’t be a problem.

“People can’t wait to open and see what’s going on,” said Mayor Eason.
