Ruidoso residents to return home soon; FBI assists in fire investigation

Permanent residents of Ruidoso will be allowed to return to their homes Monday as the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced it will assist local, state, federal and tribal partners in investigating the South Fork and Salt fires. The FBI is offering up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the arsons. Second home owners and tourists are still asked to stay away from the fires until further notice. For permanent residents of the following areas, evacuation status was lifted at 5 p.m. Saturday and they can return home. These residents will need to access their settlements via U.S. Highway 380:- Ranches of Sonterra 1, 2 and 3- Rancho Ruidoso Valley Estates- Enchanted ForestAs of 8 a.m. Sunday, the evacuation status will be lifted for the following areas and residents will be allowed to return:- Ruidoso Downs- Ruidoso Downs to El Valle Loop- Sierra Vista- Sun Valley- Villa MadonnaRestrictions will remain in place for all settlements in the original closure areas, as well as all other areas affected by the fire. In a statement on the village’s social media page, only full-time on-site residents will be allowed to return. These residents should plan to bring at least a week’s worth of food and drinking water, as grocery stores are not operating at full capacity.Also, a boil water advisory is in place, but village officials say there is a possibility a mandatory boil water order will be issued. Permanent residents of the following areas have had their evacuation status lifted at 5 p.m. Saturday and may return home. These residents must access their home areas via US Highway 380:

– Ranches of Sonterra 1, 2 and 3

– Rancho Ruidoso Valley Estate

– Magic Forest

As of Sunday, 8:00 a.m., the evacuation status for the following areas will be lifted and residents will be allowed to return:

– Ruidoso Region, United States

– Ruidoso Downs to El Valle Loop

– Sierra Vista

– San Bernardino Region

– Villa Madonna

Restrictions continue to apply to the parcelling of the areas originally excluded and all other areas affected by the fire.

A statement on the village’s social media page said that only permanent residents of the village would be allowed to re-enter, and that those residents should plan to bring at least a week’s supply of food and drinking water, as grocery stores are not operating at full capacity.

A boil water advisory is also in place, but village officials say there is a possibility a mandatory boil water order will be issued. Child care services are currently unavailable.
