Miami Police – NBC 6 South Florida

A suspected “Christmas Grinch” was arrested months after a customer had Christmas packages stolen from her Tesla. And that’s not the only crime he’s accused of, Miami police said.

Jesus Fernandez, 53, was arrested Thursday on charges of burglary and grand theft, police said.

The theft occurred on November 25 in front of the Home Depot at 2999 Southwest 32nd Avenue.

According to police, the victim parked her Tesla and went shopping, but when she returned, she discovered that her previous purchases were gone.

The Tesla’s surveillance cameras filmed the thief opening the trunk and taking packages worth around $1,000, police said.

Investigators later managed to identify the burglar as Fernandez, police said.

Fernandez faces charges of grand theft and burglary in similar cases involving Miami-Dade and Doral police, officials said.

In addition, there is an arrest warrant against him from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Interpol for human smuggling across the Mexican border, police said.

According to records, Fernandez was taken to a Miami-Dade jail where he was held on $17,150 bail.
