Police: Man shoots at Snohomish County officers, then surrenders

DARRINGTON – Police say a man shot at Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday afternoon as they attempted to arrest him on a warrant north of Darrington.

Around noon, the Snohomish County Violent Offender Task Force began an operation to arrest the man wanted on first-degree robbery charges, said Courtney O’Keefe, sheriff’s office spokeswoman.

Shortly after 2 p.m., the 37-year-old man fired a single bullet at the officers, O’Keefe said.

No deputies were injured. O’Keefe said officers did not return fire.

The shooting sparked a massive police response.

Authorities closed Highway 530 between Concrete Sauk Valley Road and Highway 20, near the Skagit County line.

Minutes later, the man surrendered to police without further incident.
