Duffy shares first new song since opening about torture

Duffy has released her first new song since revealing she was drugged, held captive and raped.

The compassion The singer sent the track with the caption Something niceto radio DJ Jo Whiley to “lift spirits” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The new music came weeks after Duffy opened up about her ordeal.

The star had said she would release a spoken-word interview about her traumatic experience, but said in her Instagram message to Whiley that it proved “more difficult than I thought.”

Duffy wrote: “Hello Jo (Whiley).

“I hope you are well and staying safe. I wanted to send this to you so you can play it on the radio if you want.

“You may have read the words I wrote a few weeks ago, I actually feel freer.

“I tried to do an oral interview afterwards, but it’s harder than I thought. I will ask in writing soon.

“Universal Music and no one knows I do this. They won’t be angry, they’re nice people.

“So here’s a song…here is Something nice. It’s just something for you to play people on the radio in these difficult times, of course only if you like the song. If it lifts your mood.

“I don’t plan on releasing it, I just thought a little something might be nice for people while they’re at home and in lockdown.”

Last month, the singer took to Instagram to tell her fans that she had stayed away from the public following her ordeal but was now ready to talk about it.

She wrote: “Many of you are wondering what happened to me, where I disappeared to and why? The truth is, and please trust me, I am fine and safe now, I was raped and drugged and held captive for several days.”

She continued: “Of course I survived. Recovery took time. There’s no easy way to put it. But I can tell you that over the last decade, in the thousands and thousands of days I have dedicated to wanting to feel the sunshine in my heart again, the sun is shining now.”

Duffy first rose to fame at the age of 20 on a talent show wawf factor, the Welsh version of The x factor.

After being signed by A&M Records, she rose to fame with her debut album in 2007 Rockferrywas successful in Europe and the USA and won a Grammy in 2009.
