10-year-old girl killed after collision

A 10-year-old girl from Lubbock, Texas, was killed on June 6 when she was riding a dirt bike and collided with a pickup truck.

According to a Colorado State Patrol press release, troopers were called around 5:30 p.m. on June 6 to investigate a fatal crash at the intersection of Forest Service Road 631 and Forest Service Road 640.

“Initial reports indicate a 10-year-old girl wearing a helmet and protective gear was riding a dirt bike southbound on Forest Service Road 640 when she ran a stop sign and failed to negotiate a sharp turn into the eastbound lane of Forest Service Road 631,” the release states. “A Toyota Tacoma driven by an 18-year-old male on Forest Service Road 631 collided with the dirt bike.”

According to the press release, bystanders performed life-saving measures, which were continued by rescue workers upon their arrival, but the 10-year-old “succumbed to her injuries before transport could begin.”

It is further stated that the driver of the Tacoma was uninjured and was at the scene of the accident.

“The Colorado State Patrol will investigate this accident and will have additional information as the investigation progresses,” the press release said.
