Two bus drivers attacked by passengers

BROOKLYN – TWO BROOKLYN BUS DRIVERS were attacked by passengers last week in what the Transit Workers’ Union says is the latest spike in workplace attacks on MTA employees. reports CBS News. Both attackers are still at large. A driver who wished to remain anonymous spoke to CBS and said that as she neared the end of her route Friday morning, a passenger began punching her in the face and threatening to kill her for missing his stop: “I opened the door because I was thinking about my beloved children who I wanted to go home to.” On Saturday, a second driver was injured and was in too much pain to attend a TWU press conference on Monday’s attacks.

Violence against transit workers has decreased compared to last year, but workers say that is not enough and are demanding a stronger NYPD presence on buses: “We are not the public’s whipping boy. And at some point something is going to happen and transit workers are going to march with their feet, and I will stand with them,” said Richard Davis, president of TWU Local 100.
