Woman accused of stabbing and killing 3-year-old child in Ohio claims she already killed in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – A woman accused of murdering a child outside a Cleveland, Ohio, supermarket claims she committed a murder before – in Bakersfield.

Bionca Ellis is accused of stabbing a 3-year-old boy to death outside a supermarket. Ellis is charged with murder, aggravated murder, attempted murder and other charges. At her arraignment on Monday, the 32-year-old pleaded not guilty to all seven counts.

According to police, the motive for the stabbing is unclear; it was probably a random attack.

However, according to court documents, Ellis told police that he killed a woman in Bakersfield several months ago and disposed of the body in an unknown location, possibly near a river.

Kern County criminal records show that Ellis was charged with three counts of assault in late January after she was a patient at Kern Medical and allegedly attacked three hospital staff members. According to police reports, Ellis refused to leave the hospital after treatment and when security attempted to escort her out, she kicked two security guards and a nurse. No court hearings have been scheduled in connection with those charges.

As for the possible Bakersfield murder, Ellis’ account to Cleveland police was very graphic. In court documents, he described the victim as a white female, approximately 5’6″ tall, 150 pounds, and a bartender or bar employee.

17 News has reached out to Bakersfield Police about the alleged murder. A spokesperson said, “Ellis made some off-the-cuff statements that were relayed to our investigators. This information was passed on to the other investigators to ensure that the information provided did not match the unsolved murder cases we were investigating.”

According to the spokesman, Bakersfield police did not have enough evidence to convict Ellis of murder.

“The information does not match any of the cases currently under investigation and at this time Ellis is not a person of interest or under investigation for any criminal offense,” police said.

Many questions remain, including whether Ellis actually killed anyone in Bakersfield. Is there an unsolved murder that may have been committed by this suspected killer? Is Ellis alleged to have a pattern of spontaneous killings? Bakersfield police claim the Ellis Bakersfield case is closed.

Police had previously arrested Ellis on charges of petty theft at a Walmart in Ohio, and she was also arrested in Florida for a nonviolent crime. NBC News spoke to an investigator currently working on her case who said there was no evidence in her past “that she has a tendency toward violence.”

Prosecutors in Ohio are seeking the death penalty for Ellis for the murder of the 3-year-old from Cleveland.
