Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt will hold a press conference to discuss the investigation into four deaths that occurred at the Waupun Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin. These deaths occurred in June 2023, October 2023 (2) and February 2024.

When: Wednesday, June 5, 2024, 1:00 p.m.

Where: Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, 124 West St, Juneau, WI in the Emergency Operations Center on the second floor.

The investigations into the four deaths have been completed and, in the interests of public interest and transparency, it is appropriate to disclose some details of these investigations.

Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt and other officials will provide a comprehensive overview of the events surrounding these four deaths and explain what accountability actions are being taken as a result. We will also outline the deficiencies identified in the Wisconsin Department of Corrections during this investigation that the public needs to be aware of. The investigations were challenging, as is any death investigation, and we are grateful for the public’s patience as they were thoroughly investigated by our Criminal Investigation Division.

The conference will be live streamed by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office for the public to view on the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Facebook and YouTube pages.
