Investigation into death at Ozaukee County Jail ongoing

PORT WASHINGTON – An investigation is ongoing following the death of an inmate early Saturday morning while in custody at the Ozaukee County Jail.

According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Department, a 36-year-old Milwaukee man who was being held at the Ozaukee County Jail was found dead in a cell around 2:30 a.m. The department has not released his name because next of kin have not been notified. No further information has been released about the man’s condition or cause of death.

The man was being held in Ozaukee County on both local charges and a warrant from another county. He had been in custody since Thursday.

The incident has been turned over to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for investigation, which the Ozaukee County Sheriff says is their procedure. The investigation is active and ongoing.
