One dead in car crash in Chesterfield Township

CHESTERFIELD (WWJ) One person was killed in a two-car crash in Chesterfield Township.

Chesterfield Township Police said witnesses told them a woman (32 year old of Chesterfield) driving north on Gratiot lost control of her car and crossed into the oncoming lane. She was struck by a man (44 year old of Chesterfield) driving south on Gratiot. It happened at about 6:45 p.m. Friday (5/31) at the intersection of D’hondt near 21 Mile Road.

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to a local hospital with injuries, police said. Their condition is unknown.

The passenger in the northbound vehicle, whose identity is currently unknown, was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital. The woman in the southbound vehicle, 43 years old of Chesterfield, was also taken to hospital with injuries.

Gratiot between miles 22 and 21 remained closed while Chesterfield Police incident response teams and detectives investigated the scene.
