LAPD describes accident involving patrol car in which pedestrian died in Hollywood

The Los Angeles Police Department has released footage and details related to the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a patrol car in Hollywood last month.

On April 29, at approximately 3:50 p.m., an LAPD vehicle was traveling north on Gower Street at Santa Monica Boulevard when it stopped at a red light.

After the patrol vehicle activated its hazard lights, it began to move through the intersection. A silver Nissan Altima traveling westbound on Santa Monica Boulevard struck the LAPD vehicle, causing it to slam into a pedestrian in the crosswalk, according to a video released by the LAPD.

“The pedestrian sustained significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” police said.

The six other injured people were taken to local hospitals and treated for minor injuries.
