Schools in Birgunj suspend classes due to heatwave

Schools in the Birgunj metropolitan area will remain closed for three days starting Tuesday due to the scorching heat. The city administration has issued a notice directing public and private schools to close, citing concerns that the heatwave could lead to a risk of illness among students.

Arvind Lal Karn, head of the city’s education department, said the decision was taken during today’s meeting of the city’s education committee after parents, students and teachers complained about the difficulties caused by the extreme heat.

The maximum temperature in Birgunj reached 41 degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday.

“Classes will be suspended for three days. These holidays will be deducted from the annual holidays to ensure that administrative work at schools is not hampered,” he said. “The decision was taken in response to requests from parents.”

Karn said that despite the announced holidays, classes could resume earlier if temperatures drop.
