A polling officer at a polling booth in Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh has been suspended for allegedly taking selfies with his mobile phone while taking photographs of voters on the day of polling two days ago, a senior polling officer said.

Uttar Pradesh Returning Officer Navdeep Rinwa said that Ashish Kumar Arya, an assistant teacher at Umri Girls Primary School in Muskara block of Hamirpur district, has been posted as a polling officer at polling station 112 of Shri Vidya Mandir Inter College at Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat.

In a clear violation of the Electoral Commission’s instructions, Arya was suspended for inappropriate behavior.

When the district basic education officer in Hamirpur came to know about the violation of EC guidelines, he suspended Arya and transferred him to the Block Resource Center in Muskara, he said.
