HS coach wanted in Lincoln County sexual assault case, arrested in SC

Maxwell Sidney Fletcher, 30, of Mount Holly, was arrested by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office officers on Friday (May 17). He is accused of several crimes in connection with an alleged sexual assault. A news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect is an East Lincoln High School boys’ soccer coach.

On May 15, Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a call regarding a sexual assault of a minor. Following the investigation, a detective charged Maxwell Sidney Fletcher with the offences. The specific fees were not listed.

Fletcher was arrested on May 17 in Gaffney, SC and was being held at the Gaffney, SC Detention Center on a fugitive from justice warrant. The detective said the Lincoln County, North Carolina, Sheriff’s Office will begin the process of extraditing Fletcher to North Carolina this week.

The investigation is ongoing and spans many different jurisdictions in North and South Carolina. Fletcher currently has outstanding arrest warrants in Lincoln and Catawba counties. Anyone with further information about the case is asked to contact Lincoln County Detective Hendrix at 828-455-6762.
