According to Lexington police, one person was killed in a shooting on Friday evening

Lexington police are investigating after one person was found dead in a shooting on Dakota Street Friday night.

Police were called to the 700 block of Dakota Street around 7:45 p.m. for a report of an accident, police Lt. Paul Boyles said.

Boyles said the victim, an adult, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office, he said.

Boyles said he had no information on a suspect as of Friday evening.

The murder is the sixth in Lexington this year.

The most recent case occurred when David Rhineheimer was found suffering from blunt force trauma on Christian Road on May 4, police said. He died the following day.

Police said at the time they were investigating the case as a homicide.
