YSRC complains to EC and demands transfer and suspension of police officers

VIJAYAWADA: The YSRC has filed two complaints with the Election Commission demanding transfer of Guntur Range IG and suspension of Anantapur DIG and Anantapur ASP with immediate effect.

These officials had been working with the Telugu Desam, the YSRC claimed, saying this was necessary to restore normalcy in the respective regions where post-election clashes occurred.

YSRC leaders led by MLA Malladi Vishnu, MLC Lella Appi Reddy, former minister Kishore Babu etc submitted their complaints to CEO Mukesh Kumar Meena here on Friday.

They expressed grave concern over the deterioration of law and order situation during the elections in Palnadu region. “Despite the significant steps already taken by the EC, including suspension and transfer of several key officials, the role and responsibility of Guntur Range IG Sarvashresth Tripathi cannot be overlooked in these events,” they pointed out.

They added: “In view of the escalation of violence and the apparent failure in maintaining law and order, we demand immediate transfer of IG Sarvashresth Tripathi and appointment of an efficient officer to restore public trust.” This is particularly important as we approach the count date of June 4th.”

The YSRC leaders alleged that Tripathi failed to control law and order and supported TD. They said there was brutal treatment of YSRC activists, including women, and violent arrests at their homes. They were allegedly beaten and tortured in police stations.

The leaders pointed to the violence in the Palnadu region. Particularly in constituencies like Macherla, Sattenapalli, Narasaraopet and Gurajala, TD supporters committed violence and booth capture despite these areas being just 25 km from the IG’s reach. “These incidents showed the failure of Tripathi.”

They called for the relocation of the IG and the deployment of additional forces, saying these would help prevent further violence and ensure a fair counting process on June 4.

In the second complaint, YSRC leaders called for the Commission’s attention and decisive action in response to recent events that “undermined the democratic process” during the elections in the Tadipatri region.

They cited the incident in which Kethireddy Pedda Reddy, the MLA from Tadipatri and YSRC candidate, was attacked on polling day. “His convoy was stopped and he had to continue on foot. He and his supporters were pelted with stones by Telugu Desam and JC Diwakar Reddy goons.”

They said that polling day violence, post-polling day attacks, police misconduct and destruction of CCTV footage were at the behest of Anantapur ASP Ramakrishna.

The YSRC leaders demanded that the EC should immediately suspend the ASP and deputy IG of police of Anantapur Range.

“The appointment of effective officials is critical to restoring public trust and maintaining the sanctity of our democratic process,” the complaint states.
