Amtrak is temporarily suspending service on the Adirondack route as Canadian National begins track work

There are further delays on an important rail route for travelers in the north of the country. Amtrak will temporarily suspend its Adirondack route between Saratoga Springs and Montreal later this month as Canadian National works to repair a section of the route that caused massive problems for travelers last year. The Albany Times-Union reports that Canadian National will work to repair a 25-mile stretch of track north of the U.S.-Canada border. Amtrak announced it will suspend service on that portion of the Adirondack route from May 20 to June 30 while work continues. The problems on this section of the route led CN to impose a 10 MPH train speed limit on this route last summer. This in turn forced Amtrak to suspend service on the route for almost three months. The Times-Union cited a social media post from the Empire State Passengers Association that said the suspension of the route will allow CN to repair the route and hopefully prevent service disruptions. The impact on service will not be, according to ESPA on the section of the Adirondack Route between New York City and Saratoga Springs, including during the Belmont Stakes on June 8th.
