Jury finds former Colorado gymnastics coach guilty of sexual assault of child

An Englewood man who was arrested on sexual assault charges months after his gymnastics business closed was convicted by an Arapahoe County jury last month.

Erik Oldham was the owner and coach of A+ Athletics in Centennial until August 2021, according to a news release from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office. A victim came forward in late 2021 with allegations of inappropriate behavior.

Oldham was arrested in May 2022. He was charged with five felonies. He pleaded not guilty to everyone.

The jury found him guilty on April 25.

Notably, the 39-year-old was also arrested just five weeks before his trial began for publicly exposing his genitals in a Colorado mountain town. CBS News Colorado obtained a court document from the Fraser Winter Park Police Department detailing their officer’s response at a Winter Park pub on February 24th.

The officer was advised that an intoxicated man had been ejected from Devil’s Craft and was attempting to gain entry again. Oldham argued with the officer. Bar employees told the officer that Oldham was also combative toward them. They said he urinated near the store’s front door after being physically removed, the arrest affidavit said.

In a preliminary breathalyzer test conducted by police later that night, Oldham’s blood alcohol content was .300. A person is considered legally drunk in Colorado if they register a reading above 0.08 on the device.

Arapahoe County authorities fear there may be more victims of sexual assault from Oldham’s time as a gymnastics coach. Anyone with information about such behavior is asked to call the sheriff’s office hotline at (720) 874-8477.

Meanwhile, Oldham remains in the Arapahoe County Jail awaiting sentencing on July 8.
