According to Lt. Brett Gockstetter, the Ohio State Highway Patrol Milan Post is currently investigating a fatal three-vehicle crash.
The accident occurred at 12:34 p.m. May 11 on the Elyria section of the Ohio Turnpike, east of the intersection with State Route 57.
The incident began when 23-year-old Jackson Williams of Broadview Heights lost control of his Subaru Crosstrek, Gockstetter said.
“(Williams) veered off the left side of the road after losing control and struck the center concrete wall,” he said. “The Subaru then came back onto the roadway and struck the trailer of a Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Jonathan Pate, 30, of Dallas, and was then struck by a Dodge Ram driven by Gary Clark, 59, of Centerville. Michigan, hit.” .”
Williams would suffer fatal injuries, but according to Gockstetter, both Pate and Clark emerged from the accident uninjured. The crash remains under investigation as of May 12, but everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt and impairment does not appear to be a factor, he said.
Gockstetter thanked the Elyria Fire Department, the Lorain County Coroner’s Office, LifeCare EMS, the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission and Rich’s Towing Service, all of which assisted the highway patrol at the scene.
