Van driver charged in crash that killed 7-year-old boy

Charges have been laid against a driver after a collision that killed a seven-year-old boy.

Pedestrian William Brown was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident in Folkestone, Kent, following an incident on the A259 Sandgate Esplanade on December 6.

According to police, two vehicles were involved in the incident, a red Citroen car and a gray Peugeot van. The van is said to have left the scene of the accident before emergency services arrived.

Stewart Powell, 49, of St. Mary’s Bay, was charged with failing to stop after a collision.

He was also charged with driving without insurance, alleging that the vehicle had insurance but was driven outside the terms of that policy, Kent police said.

Mr Powell was released on bail and was due to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 24.
