Adam Copeland: Christian Cage is doing the best work of his career, the Dead Dad gimmick was a happy accident

Adam Copeland believes Christian Cage is doing his best work right now. However, he also feels that Christian has always been capable, but previously he was held back.

The previous edge debuted in AEW last year, joining the promotion alongside longtime friend Christian Cage. This led to a multi-month program where the two Canadians competed for the TNT Championship.

It came at a time when Christian was one of the most entertaining heels in AEW. His trick of finding wrestlers with dead fathers made him the ultimate heel to hate.

Adam Copeland recently spoke with Chris Van Vliet. He asked if Christian Cage was doing the best work of his career, to which the WWE Hall of Famer replied that he thought so.

He noted that he had a glass ceiling in previous roles, which Copeland says must be frustrating for Christian.

“I think so. That’s just because I feel like he’s been limited before, you know, over the years. I think, again, you always hit a glass ceiling and some will break through. But I “I don’t think it was ever meant for him to break through. And that must be frustrating.”

The pair then laughed about Christian Cage insulting various wrestlers’ fathers during feuds. Adam Copeland believes that it was just a happy coincidence that this ploy came about and that he was the perfect rival for Cage, considering he never met his father.

“I think it was a happy coincidence. I really do. Like so many things that work out in the end, it was just a happy accident. And then you start thinking, “Well, with this person it would be this and this and this.” And that’s new territory for me. I never met my father. Are you kidding? He’ll have a lot of fun with this.”
