Terrell Davis says he was kicked off United after an incident on a flight to California

DENVER (KDVR) — NFL Hall of Fame member Terrell Davis says United Airlines sent him a travel ban after the airline apologized for an incident in which he was led off a United flight in handcuffs in front of his family.

Davis posted a screenshot on his Instagram Tuesday morning of an email that appeared to have been sent from United’s Passenger Incident Review Committee.

The email states that United’s policy is to “stop or deny any passenger whose behavior or condition endangers the safety of employees and passengers,” according to the screenshot posted on Davis’ Instagram.

The email said Davis would not be allowed to fly with United until the committee reviewed the incident and possibly considered reinstatement. In the meantime, Davis could submit a summary of the incident, according to the email.

“Not only did this company wrongfully accuse me of something I didn’t do and handcuff me and lock me up, but they failed on so many levels to show real compassion for my family’s experience and make real changes to ensure this doesn’t happen to anyone else,” Davis said in his Instagram post.

Davis removed from United flight in handcuffs

In mid-July, Davis was on a United flight from Denver to Orange County, California. According to his account of events, he tapped a flight attendant on the arm to get her attention and asked for a cup of ice cream. The flight attendant then allegedly shouted, “Don’t hit me,” according to Davis’ Instagram post.

Once the flight landed, FBI and police officers entered the plane and handcuffed Davis. A video was later released showing Davis being led off the plane in handcuffs.

The video shows an FBI agent and another law enforcement officer removing Davis from the plane while the rest of the passengers are still on board. It appears that Davis leaves voluntarily in the video.

Davis said agents later determined the guard’s information was inaccurate and apologized to Davis.

Following the incident, United released the following statement: “This is clearly not the type of travel experience we aim to provide, and we have reached out to Mr. Davis’ team to apologize. We have removed the flight attendant from duty while we closely review this matter.”

Davis’ attorney, Parker Stinar, said he intends to file suit on behalf of the family in the next few weeks.

Nexstars KDVR has reached out to United for comment on the email and is awaiting a response.
