Freeport police investigate shootings

FREEPORT, Illinois (WIFR) – Freeport police are asking for help investigating three separate gun alerts in one night.

Just before 2 a.m. on July 21, a Freeport officer said they heard gunshots in the 700 block of South Liberty Avenue and the 800 block of South Carroll Avenue. At both locations, the Sound Thinking gunshot detection system (formerly known as ShotSpotter) sounded an alarm. No injuries or damage were reported, but police said they found evidence that a gun was fired at both locations.

At 3:17 a.m. that same night, an officer said he heard gunshots in the apartment block of W. Dexter Street, which triggered another Sound Thinking alarm. Police said they found evidence of a gun being fired at that scene as well.

No injuries or property damage were reported at any of the locations.

The Freeport Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact police at 815-235-8222 or Stateline Area Crime Stoppers at 866-TIPSNOW.
