Police identify 3 of 4 fatalities in Waterbury car crash – NBC Connecticut

Police have identified three of the four people killed in a head-on collision in Waterbury on Friday night.

At around 11 p.m., officers went to Thomaston Avenue to investigate the accident and, according to police, found an Audi A7 and a Lexus GS300 in flames following a head-on collision.

Police identified the driver of the Lexus as 44-year-old Mark Sousa. They said no one else was in the car.

Police identified the man driving the Audi as 26-year-old Shar’ref Mahan of West Hartford. Two other people were in the car he was driving.

Danaya Foster, 25, of Waterbury was a passenger in the back seat of the Audi, police said.

With the assistance of the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, they are trying to determine who the passenger in the front seat was.

According to police, the accident occurred in the northbound lane in the 600 block of Thomaston Avenue.

According to officials, both vehicles were traveling at high speed before the collision, according to preliminary investigations.

The Waterbury Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident.
