Important section of Tokaido Shinkansen line closed after accident involving maintenance vehicle

Following an accident involving maintenance vehicles, the Tokaido Shinkansen high-speed train service between Nagoya and Hamamatsu stations remains suspended.

The operator, the Central Japan Railway Company, announced that the rescue work will continue until Monday evening and that it is not possible to predict when trains will be able to travel on the affected section again.

According to Central Japan Railway, a maintenance vehicle was struck from behind between Toyohashi and Mikawa-Anjo stations at around 3:30 a.m. on Monday, throwing both vehicles off the tracks.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the other suffered a cut to the head and was taken to hospital. A maintenance worker has a minor leg injury.

The operator urges passengers not to use the Tokaido Shinkansen Line until operations are fully restored to avoid congestion at stations.
