First heat warning, monsoon activity in Arizona tracked

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – A heat warning for the Valley and Western Arizona is in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday.

Highs in Phoenix are above 100 degrees, when we should be around 105 degrees. Storms began to brew in the higher elevations by early afternoon, especially in eastern Arizona.

There is a slight chance that isolated showers and storms will stick together and spread to lower elevations. In the deserts, the bigger concern will be gusty outflow winds that could kick up dust.

A few storms in northern and eastern Arizona are bringing strong winds and heavy rain. Tomorrow, the chance for this activity is even higher. We could see light showers in the Phoenix area tomorrow morning, with activity increasing in the afternoon and evening.

Strong storms are forming along the Rim that could push runoff into the lower deserts tomorrow evening. The biggest threats are blowing dust, gusty winds and short, heavy downpours.

At the beginning of the new week there is still a risk of storms, especially in the higher elevations, with little chance of storms forming in the evening hours here in the valley.

Highs will continue to be well above normal, with temperatures expected to reach 43 degrees on Sunday, 42 degrees on Monday, and then above 43 degrees again on all other days of the work week.
