Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor arrested in Florida on warrant

Pro Football Hall of Fame member Lawrence Taylor was arrested Wednesday in Florida on a warrant for failing to report his change of residence as a registered sex offender, Pembroke Pines, Florida, police said.

Taylor, 65, turned himself in to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was released on bail Thursday, the Broward County Jail said.

Taylor’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an email that the arrest was a “misunderstanding” and that Taylor would plead not guilty to the charges.

“As with the previous incident involving the same allegations, Mr. Taylor did not knowingly commit a crime. This situation is a significant misunderstanding,” Eiglarsh said. “We are confident that once prosecutors review the exculpatory evidence of Mr. Taylor’s innocence, they will again obtain a favorable outcome.”

Taylor was previously arrested in December 2021 for failing to report a change of address.

Taylor was required to register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to sexual misconduct and visiting an underage prostitute in New York in 2011. He was also sentenced to six years’ probation. Taylor told Fox News at the time that he did not know the girl was underage.

Taylor was a 10-time Pro Bowler and eight-time All-Pro linebacker during his 13-year career with the New York Giants. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999.
