Gurgaon: A foreign national admitted to a private hospital in Gurugram was allegedly raped by a male attendant. The accused has been arrested, police said. The hospital has taken cognizance of the case and promised a thorough investigation.

The woman alleged that the accused Thakur raped her in the hospital when she was semi-conscious. The accused was posted as a nurse in her room. When she regained consciousness, she told her family about the incident, following which they took up the matter with the hospital authorities, police said.

Based on their complaint, a case was registered at Sector 50 police station and the hospital staff were arrested. The accused nurse has been suspended from duty pending the completion of investigation, police said.

Meanwhile, hospital management said it would investigate the case appropriately, adding that patient safety was its top priority.

“This matter will be subjected to a fair and thorough investigation. The hospital staff are recruited through outsourcing and directly. The hospital has a POSH committee which trains the staff from time to time. There are also guards for patient safety and CCTV cameras have been installed,” the private hospital said.

A similar incident had come to light in Gurugram in early October 2020, when a girl from Haryana was allegedly raped in hospital. The incident took place in the private room of the intensive care unit.
