The taxi driver saved the man’s life by placing him in the recovery position and buying the emigrant time until paramedics arrived after he was thrown 20 meters through the air in a collision with a car.

Both men wish to remain anonymous and are therefore referred to as “foreigners” or “emigrants” and “taxi drivers”.

The taxi driver, whose identity is to remain secret, is a 52-year-old man who was sitting in his parked taxi when he saw the 38-year-old foreigner hit by a car and thrown 20 metres through the air. The taxi driver – a former lifeguard – immediately jumped into action, got out of his taxi and helped the man into the recovery position. In doing so, the Good Samaritan laid him on his side, raising his knee at a 90-degree angle to prevent him from rolling onto his stomach, and placed his hand under his face to support his head and keep his mouth open.

Thanks to the taxi driver’s quick reaction, the man survived, but unfortunately suffered four broken ribs, will likely lose his sight in one eye, and required reconstructive surgery on his lower lip. Police and paramedics concluded that the Good Samaritan’s intervention likely saved the man’s life.

The taxi driver claimed he believed the light was red and the pedestrian had the right of way before he was hit by the car travelling at considerable speed. Police are currently investigating the incident.
