Nurses in Kaduna end warning strike

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Kaduna chapter in the state, has suspended its warning strike.

The association disclosed this in a statement made available to PUNCH Online by its chairman, Ishaku Yahaya, on Monday.

The union said it had decided to suspend the strike after the government, through the Office of the Secretary of State, the Head of Department and the Health Commissioner, expressed its seriousness and commitment and signed a letter of intent to that effect.

“We have decided to suspend the five-day warning strike to create space for further negotiations and wait until the government fulfils its part of the declaration of intent,” the statement continued.

Yahaya said the strike, which began on July 8, 2024, to push for demands for improved social benefits, was a great success and there was 100 percent compliance with the measures.

Ishaku praised the resilience, tenacity and massive support of its members.

“Therefore, the strike is hereby suspended and you are expected to resume your normal duties on July 10, 2024.

“The State Administrative Council sincerely appreciates your massive support and determination to make this struggle to improve our welfare a great success.

“We assure you that we are ready to represent you and will do so very well without fear or favor. Do not forget that this is a suspension. That means that if the promises made are not kept, we will resume the industrial action in due course,” he stressed.
