A man has been sentenced to prison for brutally attacking and raping a woman after she managed to escape from his home in Dagenham.

Oladip Oshodi raped and beat the victim at his house in Mayesbrook on Tuesday, July 11 last year.

The 48-year-old had already made sexual advances to the woman he knew earlier that evening. At that point, the victim had made it clear that she did not want to have sex with Oshodi.

Despite the victim’s clear consent, he raped her twice during the same night.

She managed to escape by jumping out of a ground floor window onto the street, but then collapsed in the middle of the street.

Concerned citizens called the police and brought them to safety from the street.

She was taken to hospital for treatment and cared for by specialist staff.

Oshodi was arrested the next day and remained in custody pending trial.

On Friday, May 10 of this year, he was found guilty on all counts.

The suspect appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday 5 July where he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for two counts of rape, administering a noxious substance, threatening to kill, grievous bodily harm and controlling coercive behaviour.

Detective Constable Serena McGhee said: “Oshodi is a dangerous man and it is right that he now serves a long prison sentence in a place where he will not pose a danger to women. I commend the bravery of the victim and witnesses in this case.

“Oshodi has shown no remorse throughout the investigation and trial and I am glad that he must face the consequences of his actions.”

PC Kayleigh Grafton, a specialist officer for victims of sexual offences, said: “The survivor in this case ran for her life and jumped into the road to escape the man.

“I hope the verdict encourages other women who have been victims of sexual assault to come forward. We are here to support you and our mission is to protect you and support you every step of the way.”
