Part of Commissioners’ Park in Streamwood ‘closed indefinitely’ due to damage – NBC Chicago

A playground in the Chicago suburb of Streamwood has been closed “indefinitely” due to an incident over Independence Day weekend, the park district said in a Facebook post.

The message posted Monday afternoon by the Streamwood Park District said the Challenge Course portion of Commissioners’ Park at 81 Linda Lana was damaged and would remain closed until further notice.

No timetable for reopening or repairs was given.

According to the post, the park’s playground, squares, fields and pavilion were unaffected and remained open to the public.

No further details were announced.

Photos and comments under the social media post suggested that a car may have driven into the obstacle course portion of the playground.

According to the Streamwood Park District, the 21.5-acre park, formerly known as Aquarius Park, was renovated in 2020.

The park includes various sports fields, including a soccer field, a basketball court, futsal courts and tennis courts. There is also a playground with three different play structures.

The park’s popular “Challenge Course” area is described by park management as a “Ninja Warrior-like form of obstacle course fitness training.”

Photos from the Streamwood Park District showed that the obstacle course area was cordoned off by a metal fence with a sign reading “Caution” and “No Trespassing.”

According to the park district, all updates will be posted on the park district’s social media pages.
