A North Rome teenager who lost both legs after being hit by a train in North Rome early Thursday morning was still in critical condition Friday.

Police were initially called about a teenager who had passed out on the train tracks near Callahan Street early Thursday morning.

Floyd County and Rome police were the first on the scene and administered first aid until emergency services arrived. The train had severed both of the teenager’s legs. The teenager was taken to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center in critical condition.

Floyd County and Rome notified the Norfolk Southern Railroad investigator and turned over the accident scene to the company so it could complete its investigation into the incident.
