Racing driver convicted of sexually abusing a teenager

The sentencing date has been set for a racing driver who was previously found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl.

Peter Jones, 21, had previously been found guilty by a jury of sexually abusing a teenager in Didcot.

The then 19-year-old racing driver denied the act, arguing that the incident between the two had been consensual.

He recently appeared before Oxford Crown Court in a second rape trial, which allegedly took place on December 3, 2021.

It is alleged that Jones raped the girl in a field after the two exchanged nude photos on Snapchat.

The girl told the jury that Jones “never” asked her for sexual acts and allegedly forced her to do so.

However, Jones, of Furlong Close in Oxford, denied the offence and said the incident was consensual.

A jury was unable to reach a verdict this week and was dismissed. The prosecution decided on Thursday (July 4) that it would not formally present evidence to support the rape allegation.

Judge Maria Lamb pronounced an acquittal on this count.

Jones is now scheduled to return to the same court on August 23 to be sentenced on the sexual assault charge.

The case was adjourned so that a criminal history report could be prepared on Jones.
