Motorcyclist killed in two-vehicle accident

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A motorcyclist was killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon, the sheriff’s team said. The crash forced officials to close the road for nearly three hours.

The other driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, said Sergeant Kevin Jaworski, a spokesman for the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers responded to reports of a collision between the motorcycle and a vehicle at about 4:16 p.m. in the 1300 block of Sixth Avenue, just south of the Vero Beach city limits. The motorcyclist was taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, where doctors pronounced the person dead, Jaworski said.

Further information on which hospital the other driver was taken to was not immediately available.

The names of the drivers were not released publicly. Officers closed Sixth Avenue between 12th and 16th streets.

The road was reopened at 6:49 p.m., Jaworski said. The sheriff’s traffic police are still investigating the accident.
