First weather forecast for extreme heat in the Phoenix metropolitan area on July 4

PHOENIX (AZFamily)—Our morning started warm again with lows of around 35 degrees.

Temperatures will reach 45 degrees this afternoon. Our average high for this time of year is 41 degrees, so we’re 5 degrees above that.

There are no storms here in the valley this afternoon; the greatest chance of storms is in eastern Arizona.

As a ridge of high pressure strengthens, drier air moves in and we will have clear skies until the fourth bank holiday and this weekend.

Weather-wise, the big news is that temperatures are going to be really hot this week, with highs of 114 on the 4th and 116 on Friday.

Because of the heat, the National Weather Service has issued a heat warning for southwest and south-central Arizona.

The heat warning is in effect from Thursday, July 4, to Tuesday, July 9.
