Alta man pleads not guilty to sexual abuse of minor

STORM LAKE, Iowa – An Alta, Iowa man has pleaded not guilty to sexually abusing a minor.

Romulo Alvarez-Guzman, 58, entered his written plea in Buena Vista County District Court on Monday to charges of second-degree sexual abuse, lascivious acts on a child, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and indecent contact with a child.

Storm Lake Police were notified in January 2020 of the alleged sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 14 that occurred at a Storm Lake residence in 2019 and 2020. Police launched an investigation in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Human Services, MercyOne Child Advocacy Center and the Buena Vista County District Attorney’s Office.

According to court documents, Alvarerz-Guzman had sexual contact with the alleged victim during this time.

Alvarez-Guzman was arrested in May.
