An unprofessional request to suspend the breathalyzer test

Mister,

I read the news article “Suspend drunk driving checks on weekends” in SOM dated June 23. After reading this, I was really surprised and shocked that a professional body like Hotel Owners Association, Mysuru has made such an official demand to the Police Department.

There is no logical justification for demanding such a concession at the cost of lives that may be lost due to drunk driving on busy roads and highways in Mysuru.

The reason given is that “long queues and delays” are affecting tourists in Mysuru. The association should have called for strict measures to curb drunk driving on weekends and holidays in the interest of visitors.

A survey of tourists and residents of Mysore shows that they do not support such demands as they facilitate and encourage drunk driving, thereby putting their lives and those of many innocent people at risk.

And last but not least, such illogical demands should, in the interest of society, “be better at saving lives rather than saving time”.
