Woman killed in head-on collision in Sonoma County.

(BCN) – A woman was killed east of Guerneville Tuesday evening when she was involved in a head-on collision on Old River Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Shortly after 10 p.m., a woman driving a Toyota Sienna was driving east on Old River Road, just west of Martinelli Road. At the same time, a man driving a Chevrolet Sonic was driving west on Old River Road near Martinelli Road.

The exact cause of the collision is still unknown, but at some point one of the vehicles crossed the double yellow line into oncoming traffic and the Toyota and Chevy collided head-on.

The woman and her passenger were taken to the hospital along with the driver of the Chevy.

The woman died of her injuries en route to the hospital, according to the CHP. Her passenger suffered moderate injuries. The driver of the Chevy suffered serious injuries but survived.

The woman’s identity is being withheld pending notification of her next of kin. The accident remains under investigation.
