UKMTO receives report of incident south of Yemen’s Aden

The captain of a merchant ship reported a rocket hitting the water near the ship 52 nautical miles south of the Yemeni port of Aden, security information provider United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Wednesday.

Citing a report of the incident received by the UKMTO, it added that the ship’s crew were safe and on course for its next port of call.

Global trade has been disrupted by the Houthi attacks, which forced shipping companies to divert their ships from the key Suez Canal shortcut and have led to retaliatory strikes by the US and UK since February.

The Iran-aligned Houthis in Yemen have carried out dozens of attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea region since November in solidarity with the Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas.
