Russian forces launched missile and drone attacks on critical energy infrastructure in several regions of Ukraine on the night of June 22.

The Ukrainian Energy Ministry said there had been attacks on energy transmission systems in the southern and western regions of Ukraine, causing damage to equipment.

In Zaporizhia Oblast, two energy workers were injured and taken to hospital as a result of the attack, grid operator Ukrenergo wrote on social media.

In Lviv Oblast, a Russian missile hit an energy infrastructure facility and started a fire, reported Governor Maksym Kozytskyi.

There is currently no information about the extent of the damage in the Lviv region. Rescue workers are currently on site and are extinguishing the fire.

In unspecified eastern regions, overhead power lines were switched off to “reduce the load on power plants,” according to the Ukrainian Energy Ministry.

Restoration teams are currently working to assess and repair the damaged infrastructure.

In another city, Ivano-Frankivsk, broken windows were reported in a kindergarten and a residential building, reported Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv.

At around 4:45 a.m. local time, explosions were heard in the northwestern city of Lutsk in Volyn Oblast and over Vinnytsia Oblast, Suspilne reported.

According to Suspilne, residents also reported hearing the sound of explosions in the city of Khmelnytskyi at around 5:30 a.m. local time.

The Ukrainian Air Force warned of missile attacks on the western and central regions of Ukraine. At 4:50 a.m. local time, Poland announced that it had alerted military jets to protect Polish airspace in the face of the Russian attack in western Ukraine.

In recent months, Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and again attacked the country’s energy grid.

In response to the attacks on energy infrastructure, Ukraine began rolling power outages on May 15, but these have increased dramatically in recent days.
